Adoption Process

Adopt

We want every adoption to be a great fit for both the pet and the family. Our process is designed to help make thoughtful, lasting matches.

How to Apply

If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application through our website. Applications help us learn more about your home, lifestyle, and what type of pet may be the best fit for you.

Application Review

We work to review applications as quickly as possible and ask that you allow 2–3 days for processing. For highly sought-after animals, such as small breed dogs, it may take longer due to the volume of applications we receive.

How Pets Are Matched

Adoptions are not handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Every application is carefully reviewed to determine the best match for each animal’s needs, personality, and long-term success in the home.

Meeting a Pet

If your application appears to be a good fit, we will contact you about the next steps. This may include meeting the pet, discussing your home environment, and answering any questions you may have before moving forward.

Before You Adopt

All adopters should be ready to provide time, patience, veterinary care, and a safe, stable home. Bringing home a new pet is exciting, but it also comes with an adjustment period for both the animal and the family.

Our Commitment

We carefully match pets with families and ask that adopted animals be returned to CARA if circumstances change. Their safety and well-being always come first.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

If you are ready to adopt, we encourage you to browse our available pets and submit an application. We are grateful for every family who chooses to adopt and give a rescue animal a loving home.
