Introducing Darcy :)

Darcy came to CARA as a very frail senior dog covered in ticks, underweight, a mouthful of infected teeth, with ear and eye infections. We learned she was heartworm positive and also upon examination we found she had several masses on her mammary glands due to never being spayed as a younger dog. Even with all of her ailments and neglect Darcy was so thankful to be rescued, and we at CARA knew what we had to do.

After getting her eyes and ears cleaned up, the ticks removed, and her overall body condition improved, Darcy underwent a major surgery to remove half of her mammary tissue, she was spayed, and had nine teeth pulled. She came home to her foster home with more than 70 staples in her tiny body but we could already tell she felt 100% better than she did when we found her!

Due to her age Darcy will not undergo the traditional heartworm treatment and her prognosis is good. She is ready to go to her fur-ever home! She will need monthly visits to the vet to check for any more lumps on her mammary tissue (she essentially had a mastectomy so she needs to get an exam done on her remaining tissue) and every 6 months an xray of her chest to ensure the precancerous masses she had removed are truly gone.

Darcy LOVES to cuddle and gets along wonderfully with dogs and cats. She is a wonderful dog in the house, although she certainly is all beagle outside and needs a secure fenced in yard if off leash.

Darcy is a wonderful dog who is ready to live out the rest of her life in a home where she can be truly pampered and loved. We can tell at one point in her life she had this, but the last few years have been hard. Help us to give Darcy the home she deserves :)

Every animal that comes into the CARA program is here because one or more events occurred  that led to this animal needing not only a home, but a person or family to love and protect them. Each animal has been loved and cared for by a small and determined group of people who want nothing more than to know each animal is safe for the rest of his or her life. Thank you for looking to adopt!
