CARA Programs

- The CARA Adoption Center -

Our facility located at 42 Deep River Road houses up to 19 kennels of dogs and up to 20 kitties. Most of our kitties live in a communal cattery room so they have a more home like environment than the dogs. In 2020 CARA began an exciting expansion of the adoption center creating 2 additional viewing rooms and a larger lobby!

We have 10 Animal Care Givers who work from 7am – 10am and 5:30pm – 7:30pm 7 days a week. We also have a shelter manager, part time admin staff, and volunteer trained hosts who greet the public, assist with adoptions, and accept donations of supplies.

- PetSmart -

CARA is a PetSmart Adoption partner and has been for years .

CARA is able to house kitties in the store for store visitors to view. We also have adoption events and have enjoyed having photos with Santa and other events with our local Sanford PetSmart.

We are having a GREAT time working with the management and plan to have dog adoption events at the store often.

- Divine Finds Thrift Shop -

A group of individuals banded together to create a non profit thrift store called Divine Finds in 2012 which gives their proceeds to a local charity and CARA was chosen. The store is located at 511 Wicker St and CARA receives $1000 a month from the fine people at the store.

CARA is so thankful to work closely with such a great organization. Please stop in and see this Sanford Treasure!

- Midday Volunteers -

In addition to our Animal Care Givers who work every day we also have Midday Volunteers who come to CARA 7 days a week each afternoon just to walk, play with, and socialize the dogs.

Volunteers are 18 years of age or older, all volunteers are trained, and this is vital for the well being of CARA's dogs.

We also have volunteers to come visit with our kitties.

For more information on becoming a Volunteer, visit our volunteer page www.cara-nc.org/volunteer.
