Let me tell you about my sad story. I was stranded way out in the country with my head stuck through a fence, and I was scared and hungry until one day a lady saw me and helped free me, then took me home. I had been out there a long time, so I was skinny and fly bit. Once the nice lady got me home, she feed me and cleaned me and took care of me... and she didn't even mind that I was blind because I am a big lover and super smart.

I think I was born sometime in May of 2010, and they say I'm a small lab mix. Since I can't see, I am an excellent watch dog with a ferocious bark. I use my other senses to get around, memorizing the trail I take walks on and the room I get to lay in with the other dogs. I love to play and swimming in a mud hole is even better. My other dog friends taught me to play tug-a-war, Frisbee and chew on a squeaky toy (that is my favorite). I know a lot of new words, like my name, Calif (which means 'the chosen one'),come, sit, easy and especially "no". Everyone I meet is a new friend and I love to greet my foster parents when they come home. I need a fenced in back yard to keep me safe and hopefully another canine friend to play with, plus a family I can love and take care of. However, small kids may be too unpredictable for me since they can make quick movements that might startle me.

Every animal that comes into the CARA program is here because one or more events occurred  that led to this animal needing not only a home, but a person or family to love and protect them. Each animal has been loved and cared for by a small and determined group of people who want nothing more than to know each animal is safe for the rest of his or her life. Thank you for looking to adopt!
