My name is Tuna and I have been one of the most resilient girls that has been brought to the rescue. My journey has been long and is far from over. To put it simply, I was trapped by another rescue (Zoomies Funny Farm - check them out, they do great work) and then brought to CARA. Prior to being trapped, my life was full of chaos, sorrow and lacked consistency. I did not know what or where I was going to eat, I had litter after litter of puppies, I had to find shelter during inclement weather, and was shot at by humans (the pellets were found on radiographs). So it is safe to say that my life was so full of negativity and uncertainty, that it molded me to become extremely fearful of people and new environments. But my story isn't all sad. Little by little the humans at CARA gained my trust. They were patient, consistent and kind. It took a very long time but I got to a point where I allowed pets, and learned to walk on a leash. These basic skills were HUGE for me! Milestone after milestone I found myself not only welcoming the company of the humans here, but enjoying myself!! I love my belly rubs, and my walks. I am laid back, and housebroken. I am just the best chunky girl. I do however take a very long time to trust you, so anyone interested in possibly adopting me would have to visit the rescue for weeks before I could go home. I have also started (slow kill) heartworm treatment. The rescue decide to treat my heartworms slowly, rather than the typical faster method they use for all other dogs, due to the stress of going to the vet. I am still working on this being a positive experience for me, so for now I take my monthly heartworm prevention and eventually will hopefully test negative! I know I am not your typical rescue pup needing a home, but that little bit of extra effort will surely be worth it when you get to see my REAL personality. XOXO Tuna Fish

Every animal that comes into the CARA program is here because one or more events occurred  that led to this animal needing not only a home, but a person or family to love and protect them. Each animal has been loved and cared for by a small and determined group of people who want nothing more than to know each animal is safe for the rest of his or her life. Thank you for looking to adopt!
